About

Tour Goal

The goal of this study tour is to connect with Asian Business and experience the Asian Metropolitan Lifestyle. As global citizens, it is becoming more and more important for MBAs to have a broader understanding of international business practices. We carefully picked Taiwan and Hong Kong because they will offer students a glimpse into two very powerful world economies and the Asian metropolitan lifestyle. Although these three economies share similar culture, each of them has the unique business practice. Foster MBAs will expose themselves to these differences and find out where their interests lie.

Why Taiwan?

Taiwan is the gateway to Asia, and known for the innovation and marketing expertise in high-tech industries. In this study tour, we will visit these Taiwanese companies’ headquarters, and build up connections.

“All the manufacturing capacity in China is overlaid with the management and marketing expertise of the Taiwanese, along with all their contacts in the world,” observes Russell Craig, of tech consultants Vericors Inc.

Do you know that 90% laptops in the world, 70% of China’s export, 6 out of 10 top investments in China, 60% of chips in the world, and 80% of Nike’s shoes sold globally are the contribution of Taiwanese companies?

Why Hong Kong?

If you wish to build up connections with prestigious Investment Banking companies, Hong Kong is the best place to go. Hong Kong is an important centre for international finance and trade, with the greatest concentration of corporate headquarters in the Asia-Pacific region. Hong Kong is also an important transit center of the world. In 2007, Hong Kong handled 24 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) of containers, making it one of the world’s busiest container port.

Do you know that the per capita GDP of Hong Kong exceeds those of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark and Japan?
